The obvious version of this site has a leaderboard. Most frames posted, longest streak, most-liked photo of the week. Every habit app has one. Every photo community has one. It would take an afternoon to build.
It isn't going to be built, and since that's the decision the rest of the club hangs off, it's worth saying why.
People would shoot for the board
Not for themselves. Take a prompt like the worst light in your house — a deliberately unglamorous exercise about working with what you've got. Put a like count next to it and what comes back is predictable: technically competent, well-lit photographs that were clearly not taken in bad light at all. Somebody went and found good light, because good light scores.
The prompt is designed to make you shoot something ugly. A board makes shooting something ugly expensive.
The people who need it most would stop first
Anyone in their first month with a camera posts on day one, sees where they landed relative to everyone else, and goes quiet. They might keep shooting — they just stop posting. So the board takes the one thing this club actually wants, frames taken, and hides it.
Meanwhile the most experienced photographers have a great time. Leaderboards work beautifully if you're already winning.
A streak is a debt
Six days into a streak, day seven isn't practice any more. It's protecting something. You end up with a photo of a desk at 11:52pm, posted because the number would reset at midnight. That's not a photograph. That's a tax you pay to an app.
A streak only has power because it can be broken, and the moment it breaks the app has nothing left to offer you. You've failed at the one metric it showed you. Most people don't restart.
What there is instead
The roll. Every prompt gets a page where everyone's frames sit together, in the order they were posted. No counts, no ranking, no sort-by-best. You scroll it and see that a few dozen other people took a swing at the same idea, and some of them found something you didn't think of.
That's the entire useful part of comparing your work to anyone else's. The comparison that helps is oh, you could read it that way too. The comparison that hurts is you are 34th.
So: no leaderboard. If you want a number to chase, the only one we'll give you is the count of frames you've taken, and we'll only show it to you.
